October 2 to November 13 (except October 30) (Tuesdays): Richard Powers will teach Introductory Waltz, Introductory Swing and the fast track to social Tango for a six-week series on partnered social dancing at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto with the classes starting at 7:00 P.M. Cost is $50.00 for each class for non-students and $35.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome. For more information send email to info@fridaynightwaltz.com.

October 5 (Friday): Stanford Folk Dancers host a Balkan (mostly) dance party with music by Mosaic at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1095 Cloud Avenue, one block North of Alameda de las Pulgas, at Avy Avenue, Menlo Park from 7:30 to 10:00 P.M. Admission is $12.00 general and $6.00 for students. Snacks and drinks plus tips for the musicians are welcome. For more information call Owen at (650) 966-1775.

October 5 (Friday): Richard Powers, with Tracey, will teach Romany Polka and Richard will DJ waltz and polka dancing at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto with the classes starting at 7:15 P.M. and the dancing is from 9:00 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 for both classes and the dance, $10.00 for the dance only and $10.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome. October 6 (Saturday): Free show for MAPP includes Eastern European, Middle Eastern and Zaza (Kurdish Sufi) music at the Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco at 7:30 P.M.

October 7 (Sunday): Gradina will sing to music played by Ken Genetti, Karen Guggenheim, Natalie Hicks and Jana Mariposa Muhar at the Russian River Rose and Fragrance Festival. Admission is $5.00. For more information call (707) 433-7455.

October 7 (Sunday): Balkan Sundays at The Revolution Cafe in San Francisco with music provided by La Peche.

October 10 (Wednesday): Czinka Panno trio to paly Eastern European traditional and Romani music for listening and dancing at Le Bateau Ivre.

October 12 (Friday): Berkeley Balkan Bacchanal with music by Mahala, La Peche and George and Nikolas Parisis at The Starry Plough, 3102 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley at 9:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00 to $15.00 on a sliding scale at the door.

October 12 (Friday): Joan Walton will teach Cha Cha, Chilly Cha Cha mixer and Fred and Ginger styling and Lynn will DJ waltz and polka dancing at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto with the classes starting at 7:15 P.M. and the dancing is from 9:00 P.M. to Midnight. October 13 (Saturday): The Peninsula Folk Dance Council a short workshop by Adony Beniares teaching Melnishko Horo and maybe Talava followed by and All-request dance party emceed by Loui Tucker at the Garden House, Shoup Park, 400 University Drive, Los Altos with the workshop from 7:00 to 7:30 P.M. and the party from 8:00 to 10:00 P.M. October 13 (Saturday): Café Shalom meets for Israeli dancing at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 1399 – 43rd Avenue, at Judah, San Francisco from 7:30 to 11:30 P.M.  Admission is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. For more information contact rofromsf@gmail.com.

October 13 (Saturday): The Pickpocket Ensemble play at the Occidental Center for the Arts, 3850 Doris Murphy Court, Occidental from 8:00 to 10:00 P.M. Admission is $19.00 in advance or $23.00 at the door.

October 14 (Sunday): Klezmer Concert with the Gonifs at Congregation B'nai Shalom in Walnut Creek from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Dancing with Bruce Bierman and a kid's program by Gerry Tenney.

October 14 (Sunday): Balkan Sundays at The Revolution Cafe in San Francisco with music provided by Trio Dancho.

October 15 (Monday): GreekFeet hosts a Greek folk dance workshop with Joe Graziosi at Joe Goode Annex, Project Artaud, 401 Alabama Street, at 17th Street, San Francisco from 7:00 to 9:30 P.M. Admission is $15.00. For more information contact Mary Ann Karonis.

October 17 (Wednesday): Janam Band plays Balkan and Appalachian music for listening and dancing at Strings, 6320 San Pablo Avenue, Emeryville/Oakland at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00.

October 17 (Wednesday): Bulgarika to play Bulgarian music for listening and dancing at Le Bateau Ivre, 2629 Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley with dinner seating starting a 5:00 P.M. and the performance is from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. There is no cover charge. For more information contact Arlene.

October 18 (Thursday): Start of Israeli Folk Dance class taught by Carol Friedman at the Osher Jewish Community Center from 1:30 to 4:00 P.M. Cost is $40.00 ($35.00) for members for the six-week session or $10.00 ($8.00 for members) drop-in. The class is held in the Pilates Studio on the second floor. October 19 (Friday): Kopachka Folk Dancers host a Bulgarian Folk Dance Party featuring live music by Bulgarika at Strawberry REcreation Center, 118 East Strawberry Drive, Mill Valley from 8:00 to 10:30 P.M. Admission is $15.00 and kids are free with adult. For more information click here.

October 20 (Saturday): Ripni Kalinke's Eighth Birthday celebration with live music by Bulgarika and special performances at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 1205 Pine Avenue, San Jose from 5:00 to 10:00 P.M. Bulgarian food and wine will be available. Admission is free but donations are cheefully accepted.

October 20 (Saturday): Celebrate Oktoberfest at the Federation's Officers Ball at the Pleasanton Veteran's Memorial Main Hall, 301 Main Street, Pleasanton with a dance workshop from 1:30 to 5:30 P.M., dinner from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. and dancing from 7:00 to 10:30 P.M. October 20 (Saturday): Minor Empire with Mechanical Turk play at the Rickshaw Stop, San Francisco at 8:00 P.M.

October 21 (Sunday): Bulgarika plays Bulgarian music for listening and dancing at Ashenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley from 7:00 to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 in advance or $15.00 at the door.

October 23 (Thursday): Cabrillo Folkdaners host at Bulgarian dance party with music by Bulgarika at Park Hall, 9400 Mill Street, Ben Lomond from 7:30 to 10:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00. Bring finger food snacks to share and tips for the band.

October 24 (Wednesdays) Start of College of Marin Community Education International Folk Dance Class taught by Carol Friedman. The class will run from 24 October through 5 December and is on Wednesdays from 2:10 to 3:30 P.M. Cost is $68.00 for the six week sessin with $15.00 annual Emeritus College dues. October 26 (Friday): Haloween Dance and costumes are welcome; Cam Schaeffer will teach Time Warp, Chaos mixer to Ghostbusters and Sex Bomb Choreography and Jason Anderson will DJ waltz and polka dancing at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto with the classes starting at 7:15 P.M. and the dancing is from 9:00 P.M. to Midnight. October 27 (Saturday): Disciples of Markos with Hank Bradley play Rebetika music at the Octopus Literary Salon, 2101 Webster Street, Oakland from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Admission is from $10.00 to $20.00 on a sliding scale.

October 27 (Saturday): FDF Northern California Dance Symposium featuring Dr. Christos Papakostas teaching dances from Epirus, Thessalia, Drama And Serres at the Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4700 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland from Noon to 5:00 P.M. Light lunch, snacks and refreshment will be provided. For more information click here.

October 27 (Saturday): Cope-a-Cabana host a Bulgarian Dance Workshop with Michael Ginsberg, a Pot-Luck and a Dance Party and house concert with usic by Bulgarika at Cope-a-cabana, 433 South Henery Avenue, San Jose with the workshop from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., the Pot-luck from 6:00 to 6:30 P.M. and the dance party and concert fro 6:30 to 9:30 P.M. Admission for the party and concert is $20.00 or $25.00 for the whole event. A Sauna, hot tub, swimming pool and ping pong will be available from 4:00 to 10:00 P.M.

October 28 (Sunday): San Francisco Croatian Heritage Festival with music by three bands, a dance workshop a Croatian Singing class and traditional Croatian cuisine at the Croatian American Cultural Center", 60 Onondaga, at Alemany, San Francisco from Noon to 8:00 P.M. October 28 (Sunday): Balkan Sundays with music for listening and dancing by Joey Friedman, Travis Hendrix, Ivan Valev and Andrew Cohen at the Revolution Cafe in San Francisco.

October 31 (Wednesday): The Hungarian National Dance Ensemble perform at the Vacaville Performing Arts Center, 1010 Ulatis Drive, Vacaville at 7:30 P.M. Admission is $35.00 to $45.00 and parking is free. For more information call (973) 473-0013.

October 31 (Wednesday): Danubius performs, with guest musician Balder ten Cate, music from Transylvania, Romania and Hungary for listening and dancing at Le Bateau Ivre, 2629 Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
