October 1 (Wednesday): Balkan dance to recorded music, with a lesson, at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley with a lesson at 7:00 and the dancing starts at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $7.00. For more information call (510) 525-5054.

October 1 (Wednesday): Ellis Island Old World Folk Band play Klezmer music at Le Bateau Ivre, 2629 Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley with the music from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. There is no cover charge. For more information and reservations call (510) 529-8753.

October 2 (Thursday): Da! Mozhem to play Balkan music for a dance party at The Mandala, Bowcock Hall, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 43rd Avenue, at Judah Street, San Francisco from 7:30 to 10:30 P.M. Admission is $10.00. October 3 (Friday): Richard Powers and Angela Amarillas will teach the Bohemian National Polka and Tom Hill will teach Introductory Waltz also, Richard will DJ Waltzes and Polkas for the Friday Night Waltz group at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 7:00 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 for both classes and the dance, $8.00 for the dance only and $8.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome. October 4 (Saturday): Inspector Gadje Brass Band to play and the Hamer Sisters and Jill Parker to perform with Dj Zeljko for the Kafana Balkan at Rickshaw Stop, 155 Fell Street, San Francisco at 9:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00.

October 6 (Monday): Yannis Konstantinou teaches a Greek dance workshop for GreekFeet Dancers, Joe Goode Annex, Project Artaud, Alabama Street, at 17th Street, San Francisco at 7:30 P.M. Admission is $20.00. For more information contact Maryann Karonis.

October 10 (Friday): Nikolay Tsvetkov from Pirin, Bulgaria teaches a Bulgarian dance workshop for the Stanford International Folk Dancers at the First Baptixt Church, 305 N. California Ave., Palo Alto from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00 for adults and $7.00 for students.

October 10 (Friday): Beyond the Borders: Balkan Soul band plays a concert and music for dancing With a dance workshop at the Croatian American Cultural Center, 60 Onondaga, at Alemany, San Francisco from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00 and children are free. Ethnic food will be available.

October 10 (Friday): Yannis Knostantinou teaches a Greek dance workshop for the Kopachka dancers at Strawberry Recreation Center, 118 East Strawberry Drive, Mill Valley from 7:30 to 10:30 P.M. October 10 (Friday): Talija perform a folk dance show with dances from Belgrade, Serbia, Romania, Russia, Greece and Hungary at McKenna Theatre, San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00.

October 19 (Sunday): Snap-y Dancers host an International Folk Dance Festival for new dancers at Herman Sons Hall, 850 Western Avenue, Petaluma from 1:00 to 4:30 P.M. Admission is Free.

October 19 (Sunday): Gradina performs at the Russian River Rose Company's Russian Tea and Fragrance Festival at 1685 Magnolia Drive, Healdsburg from Noon to 2:00 P.M. There is usually a little dancing. For more information call (707) 433-7453.

October 21 (Tuesday): Stanford University students start a Salsa and Latin dance class to meet every Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 7:00 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 for both classes and the dance, $10.00 for the Latin class and dance only and $8.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome.
