The Folk Dance Scene for November 2017

November 3 (Friday): Jim Kleinrath and Melody Singleton will teach Viennese waltz and Richard Page will DJ waltz and polka dancing at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 9:00 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 for both classes and the dance, $8.00 for the dance only and $8.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome. November 4 (Saturday): The Folk Dance Federation Officer's Ball at Vetrans' Memorial Hall, 22737 Main Street, Hayward (off Highway 580) from 1:00 to 10:00 P.M. There will be an institute followed by an on-site dinner then an evening dance party. Admission is $30.00 and includes dinner if signed up before October 27. November 5 (Sunday): Beyond the Borders, featuring Sidro, Meraklii and Antika Bulgaria at the Croatian American Cultural Center, 60 Onondaga, at Alemany, San Francisco from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00 at the door and $5.00 in advance and children are free. Food and drink are available. Bring dancing shoes and there will be singing in the bar.

November 5 (Sunday): Klez-California hosts a Yiddish-inspired Cabaret with music by the Goniffs and dancing led by Bruce Bierman at the JCC East Bay, 1414 Walnut Street, Berkeley from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Admission is $25.00 General, $10.00 teens, and kids 6-12 are free. For more information click or call (415) 789-7879.

November 10 (Friday): Berkeley Balkan Bacchanal with music by Radio Istanbul, Ales Hand Band and Balkalicious Fire Drive at The Starry Plough, 3102 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley at 9:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00 to $20.00 on a sliding scale at the door.

November 11 (Saturday): Eszterlanc 40th Anniversary Gala Concert and "Dance House" (Tanchez) with the concert at Canada College Main Theatre, 420 Farm Hill Road, Redwood City at 3:00 P.M. and the Dance House at The Priory, Verhalen Family "Black Box" Theatre, 302 Portola Road, Portola Valley from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. Admission for both is $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for students (ages 5-17).

November 11 (Saturday): The Santa Cruz Dancers host a Greek dance party with the band Meze at Live Oak Grange,1900 - 17th Avenue, Santa Cruz at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $12.00 on a sliding scale plus tips for the musicians. Bring finger food snacks to share. For more information click here.

November 11 (Saturday): Disciples of Markos play Rebetika music at the Octopus Literary Salon, 2101 Webster Street, at 22nd, Oakland from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Admission is $5.00 to $10.00 on a sliding scale.

November 11 (Saturday): The Peninsula Folk Dance Council host a folk dance party at Garden House in Shoup Park, 400 University Avenue, Los Altos with Denise Heenan teaching the English Country dance "Winter Solstice" from 7:00 to 7:30 P.M. and John Burke emceeing dancing to recorded favourites from 7:30 to 10:15 P.M. Admission is $9.00 and first timers are free. Bring snacks to share For more information and to sent in your dance requests contact John Burke.

November 12 (Sunday): Sacred Circle Dance party at Hillside Church, El Cerrito with a potluck at 6:30 P.M. and dancing from 7:30 to 9:30 P.M. this will be Marina Bear's last day of dancing until she is recovered from her spinal surgery. November 17 (Friday): Lee Corbie-Wells, Jonnie Pekelny and Zina Pozen play Russian Folk and Soviet pop music followed by Orchestra Euphonos playing Eastern European and Klezmer music for listening and dancing at Studio Grand, 3234 Grand Avenue, near Lake, Oakland at 9:00 P.M.

November 18 (Saturday): Moveable Feet Dance Club host a Pre-Kolo Festival Kick-Off Party With Sue Williard teaching Arcanul Batrinesc (Erik Bendix) and Kara Tren (Ahmet Luleci), and live music provided by Staro Vino at All Saints Episcopal Church, 555 Waverly Street, Palo Alto with the Workshop from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. and dancing to music by Staro Vino from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. November 18 (Saturday): Janam Band and Dan Cantrell play Balkan and Ammalachian music for listening and dancing at Art House Gallery and Cultural Center, 2905 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley with doors opening and a potluck at 6:30 P.M. and the show begins at 7:30 P.M. Admission is $15.00 to $25.00.

November 24 & 25 (Friday & Saturday): 66th Annual San Francisco Kolo Festival at the Croatian American Cultural Center, 60 Onondaga, at Alemany, San Francisco. For more information click here.
