The Folk Dance Scene for November 2016

November 2 (Wednesday): Balkan Folkdance: a revival of '70's style Berkeley folk dancing with some international folk dancing by request at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley with a lesson at 7:00 and dancing at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $7.00.

November 4 (Friday): Richard Powers, partnered by Tracey will teach Cross-Step Waltz Cross-Step Waltz Mixer Variations and Richard Powers will DJ Waltzes and Polkas at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 7:00 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 for both classes and the dance, $8.00 for the dance only and $8.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome. November 4 (Friday): True Life Trio perform in a house concert in North Berkeley at 7:30 P.M. Admission is $15.00 to $20.00 on a sliding scale. For more information, location and to make the required reservations click here.

November 10 (Thursday): Janam Band and the Alex Hand Band to play a The Lost Church, Private Parlor Show, 65 Capp Street, San Francisco at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door. For more information contact Julia Graffagna.

November 11 (Friday): Berkeley Balkan Bacchanal with music by Mano Cherga, Helios and Balkanton 340 at The Starry Plough, 3102 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley at 9:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00 to $20.00 on a sliding scale at the door.

November 11 (Friday): Friday Night Waltz will be closed today only.

November 12 & 13 (Saturday & Sunday): Helene Eriksen and The Anar Dana Project present "Dances Under the Crescent Moon 3", a special evening of Women's Dances of the Orient at Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, 2868 Mission Street, San Francisco at 8:00 P.M. on Saturday and 3:00 P.M. on Sunday. November 12 (Saturday): Brass Roots event featuring Istanbul Connection, Axon Orchestra and Howard Wiley and extra Nappy + Special Guest at Rickshaw Stop, 155 Fell Street, San Francisco at 9:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00 at the door.

November 12 (Saturday): Peninsula Folk Dance Council dance party at the First Baptist Church, 305 North California, Palo Alto with Donna Frankel teaching Caballero, Lay Low, and Zoobi Foobi from 7:14 to 8:00 P.M. and an all-request dance party from 8:00 to 10:30 P.M. November 13 (Sunday): Sevdah singers with the Slavonian Traveling Band and the Mladost Bosne Dance Ensemble daners perform the Croatian American Cultural Center, 60 Onondaga, at Alemany, San Francisco at 2:00 P.M.

November 18 (Friday): Joan Walton, partnered by Kimber Rudo will teach Introductory Level Cross-Step Waltz and four Mixers and Progressive dances and Anthony will DJ Waltzes and Polkas at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 7:00 P.M. to Midnight.
