May 3 (Friday): Hot Blood Orkestar to play Balkan fusion music for listening and dancing at The Sleeping Lady, 23 Broadway, Fairfax.

May 3 (Friday): Stanford International Dancers present a Macedonian dance worshop by Lew Smith at the First Baptist Church, Event Hall, 305 N. California Avenue, Palo Alto from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00 for adults and $7.50 for Students. Children are free. Schedule will include recreational and request dancing. For more information call Ginny at (408) 733-5529.

May 3 (Friday): Albany YMCA folk dancers will not meet today due to a party at he gym, but will meet next week.

May 4 (Friday): Nick and Danielle to teach easy mixers and Oslo Waltz mixer and teach introductory Waltz also Lucas Garron will dj waltzes and polkas for the Friday Night Waltz group at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 7:00 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 for both classes and the dance, $8.00 for the dance only and $8.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome. May 4 (Saturday): Orkestar Kocani from Macedonia along with Inspector Gadje, Galbeno Band to perform and Sani Rifati to teach a Romani Dance workshop at the Roma Herdeljezi Festival at the New Parish, 579 - 18th Street, between San Pablo Avenue and Jefferson Street, Oakland from 3:00 to 8:30 P.M. May 11 (Saturday): Peninsula Council Folk Dance Party, with a free advanced pre-dance workshop by Loui Tucker teaching Muiere Muiere, a Rom dance plus a contra followed by an all-request dance party MC'd by Becky Beniares and Nancy Kaye at St. Bede's Church Hall, 2650 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park with the workshop from 7:15 to 8:00 P.M. and the party from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. May 11 (Saturday): Jerry Duke teaches Macedonian dances and Trio Zulum and Zabava! to play music for dancing at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley with a lesson at 7:30 P.M. and the music starts at 9:00 P.M. This is a benefit for Georgi Petrov. Admission is $15.00 at the Door.

May 12 (Sunday): Magic of Rhodope Mountains, featuring Todor Yanev, Vasil and Maria Bebelekovi, Iliana Bojanova and Tanya Kostova at The Dance Studio Antika, 10837 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M.

May 12 (Sunday): World Out West Music and Dance Festival featuring live Swing, Balkan, American etc. music at the Humanist Hall, 390 - 27th Street, Oakland from 1:00 to 10:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00.

May 16 (Thursday): Mandala will be hostine Caroline Simmonds teaching popular Greek Dances that will be played at two popular Greek Festivals in the Bay Area. "Greek Dance 101" featuring many popular dances tha teh bands will play the Oakland Cathedral of the Ascension on the folowing weekend. Beginners are free; all other dancers contribute from $2.00 to $5.00 on a sliding scale. This is a opportunity to invite your non-dancing friends so they too can enjoy the festivals. May 17 (Friday): Richard Powers and Angela Amarillas teach dances they taught in Japan (Zig Zag Saunter and Bossa Nova Rapido) and the Academy of Danse Libre present a quadrille choreography also Richard will dj waltzes and polkas for the Friday Night Waltz group at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 7:00 P.M. to Midnight. May 18 (Saturday): Volunteers needed for a flash mob folk dance at the Festival of the Silk Road at the Mexican Heritage Plaza, 1700 Alum Rock Road, San Jose sometime between 2:00 and 5:00 P.M. TWo or three simple folk dances, one from the Near East/Silk Road and the other(s) Balkan (maybe ten minutes). Afterwards Edessa will be playing Balkan music for dancing. Admission to the afternoon (2-6 P.M.) portion of the Festival is free and the evening concert and dance performances in the theatre from 6:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. has admission prices from $10.00 to $45.00. May 18 (Saturday): Celebration of 24th of May with Vasil Bebelekov and Zulum band at Touch of Europe, 1880 Colfax Street, Concord at 7:00 P.M. Hosted by Sts. Kiril and Methody Bulgarian Church, Concord.

May 19 (Sunday): Todd Wagner will teach Zensko Makedonsko Oro and Zhora Bar and review Kamenopolsko Zulum in the back studio at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Admission is $5.00. For more information call (510) 525-5054.

May 23 (Thursday): Mandala continues its Greek dance brush-up with Caroline Simmonds. She will review dances taught previously with the addition of other material, including Island dances, which we anticipate being played at the Marin Greek Festival this weekend.
