January 6 (Wednesday): Balkan Folk Dancing to recorded music at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley with a beginner lesson at 7:00 P.M., an intermediate lesson at 7:30 P.M. and dancing at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $7.00. For more information call (510) 525-5054.

January 8 (Friday): Staro Vina and Jela to play and sing music for dancing for the Stanford Folk Dancers at Flex-it Aerobic Studio, 425 West Evelyn Avenue, Mountain View from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. Admission is $8.00 and $4.00 for students. For more information call Ginny at (408) 733-5529.

January 9 (Saturday): The Red Hot Chachkas Klezmer Band has a CD release show at Armando's, 707 Marina Vista, Martinez at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00.

January 9 (Saturday): Mekedonikos Ichos U. S. debut, glendi and dinner at St. Nicholas Church, San Jose. Admission is $35.00. For more information send email to sofiaefstrat@mac.com.NOTE: The dinner is sold out, but there is still room for dancing.

January 14 - 17 (Thursday - Sunday): Thirty - fourth annual Greek Orthodox Dance and Choral competition and festival at the San Jose Convention Center. Makedonikos Ichos and the Olympians to provide live music for dancing. For more information visit http://www.yourfdf.org.

January 15 & 16 (Friday & Saturday): Heritage Festival, sponsored by the Peninsula Folk Dance Council, in San Carlos with a Friday evening party, Saturday meeting, lunch and dancing. Admission is $7.00 for dance party and $10.00 for the institute. For more information visit www.folkdance.com.

January 16 & 17 (Saturday & Sunday): Ethnic Dance Festival Auditions at the Palace Of Fine Arts Theatre, San Francisco. Admission is $10.00 per day.

January 17 (Sunday): Advanced Balkan Class at the back studio of Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M.
