August 1 (Thursday): New Bulgarian dance class for beginners at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 1205 Pine Avenue, San Jose at 7:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00 per class or $30.00 per month. For more information call Maggie at (781) 985-0828.

August 2 (Friday): Nick and Danielle teach Lindy Charleston and the Rotary Waltz Rueda and Tom Hill teaches introductory waltz also Nick will dj waltzes and polkas for the Friday Night Waltz group at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 7:00 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 for both classes and the dance, $8.00 for the dance only and $8.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome. August 2 (Friday): Stanford International Dancers present a Balkan dance party with live music by the new Balkan band: Plovdiv Party Bus at the First Baptist Church, Event Hall, 305 N. California Avenue, Palo Alto from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for Students. Children are free. August 17 (Saturday): Zina Bozzay and Mavrothi Kontanis perform Hungarian and Greek Songs at 470 - 59th Street, Oakland a 8:30 P.M.

August 18 (Sunday): Martin Frost to teach a dance workshop in the back studio at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Admission is $5.00. For more information call (510) 525-5054.

August 21 - December 18 (Wednesdays): Start of Intro to Folk Dance (Dance 40) class taught by Marilyn Smith at Santa Rosa Junior College 905 Tauzer on the JC Campus from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Register now.

August 24 (Saturday): Webster Haven presents a House Concert with Janam Band playing music from the Balkans, Near East and America at 2329 Webster Street, Berkeley at 8:00 P.M. August 24 (Saturday): Inaugural Quasi-Quarterly Folk Dance Party at St. Bede's Church Hall, 2650 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park with teaching of Romanian dances by Martin Frost and Loui Tucker from 7:00 to 7:45 P.M. and the party goes from 7:45 to 10:45 P.M. admission is free. August 24 (Saturday: Polish Folk Dance master class (any level of training, or lack of it ok) taught by Christina Smolen at the Mountain View Masonic Center, 890 Church Street, Mountain View from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
