August 3 (Wednesday): Balkan Folk Dance to recorded music 70's style at at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley with a lesson at 7:00 P.M. and the music starts at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $7.00 at the Door.

st 4 (Thursday): Jerry Duke to host a folk dance party at The Mandala Folk Dance Center, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Bowcock Hall, 43rd Avenue, at Judah, San Francisco from 7:30 to 10:30 P.M. August 6 (Saturday): Mid-East Tapestry plays music from Egypt, Turkey, Persia, Lebanon and Algeria for listening and dancing (encouraged) at Afendi's Turkish Grill, Plaza North Shopping Center, 299 N. August 7 (Sunday): Israeli "Oldies" Folk Dance Party, with request dances led by Allen King, at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley from 1;30 to 5:30 P.M. Admission is $8.00. August 12 (Friday): Danubius plays traditional and Gypsy music from Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Russia at Frankie's Bohemian Cafe, 1862 Divisidero, at Pine, San Francisco from 9:30 P.M. to 12:30 A.M. For more information and reservations, call (415) 567-7899.

Mozhem/Sviraci to play Balkan music for dancing for the Stanford International Folk Dancers at the First Baptist Church, 305 North California Avenue, Palo Alto from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. August 19 (Friday): Inspector Gadje to perform at Off the Grid at Fort Mason Center, San Francisco. Admission is free.

August 20 (Saturday): Nada Lewis (amoungst others) to play at the twenty-first Anniversary Cotati Accordion Festival at LaPlaza Park, Cotati. The festival starts at 9:30 A.M. and Nada will play your favorite Eastern European dance tunes in the late afternoon.

August 20 & 21 (Saturday & Sunday): Cotati Accordion Festival at La Plaza Park in downtown Cotati.

August 21 (Sunday): Greek festival at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 999 Brotherhood Way, San Francisco starts after services about Noon. There will be live music. For more information call (415) 584-4747.

August 26 (Friday): Inspector Gadje at Baxtalo Drom at Amnesia, 853 Valencia Street, between 19th and 20th Streets, San Francisco at 9:00 P.M. Admission is $5.00 before 9:30 P.M. and $10.00 after.

August 27 (Saturday): Israeli folk dance party at Cafe Shalom, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Bowcock Hall, 1399 - 43rd Avenue, at Judah, San Francisco from 7:30 P.M. to 11:30 P.M. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. For more information send email to toktok124@yahoo.com.

August 27 (Saturday): Ivan Velev with Black Hats Balkan band to play Sevda, Macedonian, and Russian music and Balkan brass tunes at a Blackout Speakeasy fund-raiser for Station 40, 3030B - 16th Street, San Francisco at 9:00 P.M. Password to get in: "black market". All black formal adttire requested; dress to impress. Bring a date or a friend for a dark evening of dedadence.

August 28 (Sunday): Sway Machinery and Brass Menazeri play at the BeatBox, 314 - 11th Street, San Francisco from 8:00 to 11:30 P.M. Admission is $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the door.
