April 5 (Friday): International Roma Day San Francisco featuring live music by Reyhan/Husni Tuzsuz for dancing as well as concerts and lectures at Croatian American Cultural Center, 60 Onondaga, at Alemany, San Francisco from 6:30 to 11:30 P.M. April 6 (Saturday): Tanya Kostova hosts a special Bulgarian Dance Party at Mandala, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Bowcock Hall, 1399 - 43rd Avenue, at Judah, San Francisco from 7:30 P.M. to 10:30 P.M. Admission is $10.00. For more information contact Paul and Edith at (415) 648-8489.

April 8 (Monday): Balkan Dance Cabal's first meeting (they will meet on the second and last Monday of every month) for the first time at the back studio at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley with a lesson by Nadav Nur teaching Pece Atanasovski's Postupano from 7:30 to 9:30 P.M. April 9 (Tuesday): Richard Powers, with Mirage Marrou, teach a six-week series of social dance classes, including introductory Hustle and Club Two-Step, Intermediate to advanced Salsa and ChaCha and intermediate to Advanced Cross Step Waltz at the First United Muthodist Church in Palo Alto. Cost for the series is $30.00 for students and $45:00 for everyone else.

April 10 (Wednesday): Nick Garris and the HeleNicks play Greek music for listening and dancing at Le Bateau Ivre, 2629 Telegraph Avenue, Berkeley from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. There is no cover charge. The music is unamplified.

April 12 (Friday): The Stanford International Folk Dancers present a special Fundraiser dance concert by Trio Zulum for master gadulka musician, Georgi Petrov's surgery, at First Baptist Church, Event Hall, 305 North California Avenue, near Bryant, Palo Alto from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. Admission is on a sliding scale from $10.00 to $20.00, students are half price and children are free.

April 13 (Saturday): Annual Folk Dance Party hosted by the Petaluma Snap-Y Dancers at Herman Sons Hall, 860 Western Avenue, Petaluma from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. There will be dancing to recorded followed by live music by Mark Jenkisn, Dena Bjornlie, Greg Jenkins, and Lisa Ekstrom playing Bulgarian, Macedonian and Greek music. April 13 (Saturday): Greek Glendi with music by Edessa, hosted by Greek Feet at St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church, 500 De Haro Street, between Mariposa and 18th Streets, San Francisco at 7:45 P.M. April 14 (Sunday): Gradina to perform both dance and concert pieces for the Sunday Salon, Occidental Center for the Arts, 3850 Doris Murphy Court, Occidental from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00 at the door. Refreshments will be sold.

April 18 (Thursday): Berkeley Balkan Bacchanal present a party with music provided by Duo Nisiotika, Edessa, and Fanfare Zambaleta at the Starry Plough, 3101 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley with the doors opening at 8:00 P.M. and the music starts at 9:00 P.M. Admission is $8.00 to $12.00 on a sliding scale.

April 19 (Friday): Stanford International/ Dancers present a Workshop by Marion Earl featuring favorites from this years' festivals and camps at the First Baptist Church, Event Hall, 305 N. California Avenue, Palo Alto from 8:00 to 11:00 P.M. Admission is $15.00 for adults and $7.50 for Students. Children are free. Schedule will include recreational and request dancing. April 19 (Friday): Cristophe Taylor will teach Blues walks and Jazz movements and Tom Hill to teach introductory Waltz also Richard will dj waltzes and polkas for the Friday Night Waltz group at First United Methodist Church, upstairs, Fellowship Hall, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto from 7:00 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $12.00 for both classes and the dance, $8.00 for the dance only and $8.00 for students. No partner necessary. All ages welcome. April 20 (Saturday): Possibly the last dance party for the Menlo Park Folk Dancers at Arrillaga Family Recreation Center, 700 Alma Street, Menlo Park at 8:00 P.M. Admission is $10.00 for adults and $3.0 for teens. For more information contact Marcel at (650) 327-0759.

April 20 (Saturday): Spring Hop, swing music from the '50's and '60's, with live music by 3 O'Clock Jump and Vinyl record spins by Dj Tom, contests and pinball machines on the Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet in Alameda from 7:30 P.M. to Midnight. Admission is $25.00 in advance, $30.00 at the door (deck?), and an extra $5.00 if you want to enter the contests. This is a benefit for the Hornet. April 20 & 21 (Saturday & Sunday): Dance ethnologist, Helene Eriksen, presents with the Bay Area ANAR DANA project "Dances Under the Crescent Moon", a dance event featuring Near and Middle Eastern dances at the Mission Cultural Center for latino Arts, 2868 Mission Street, San Francisco Saturday at 7:00 P.M. and Sunday at 2:00 P.M. April 21 (Sunday): Advanced Balkan dance class with Dan Unger teaching Danets Trite Pati, Kopacka, Erzrumi Shoror and Matura de la Sinnicolaul Mare in the Back Studio at Ashkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman, Berkeley from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. April 21 (Sunday): Jewish Cultural Festival, Simcha Sunday present a Dance workshop and jam with Bruce Bierman at Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building, 1351 Maple Avenue, Santa Rosa with the workshop from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. and the Jam is from 2:45 to 3:45 P.M. April 24 (Wednesday): Zabava! Izvorno and Music Progressive Quartet play Balkan music for listening and dancing at Subterranean Arthouse, 2179 Bancroft Way, Berkeley at 8:00. Admission is $10.00 to $20.00, but no one is turned away for lack of funds. For more information visit http://www.mpq.mk.

April 28 (Sunday): San Francisco Festival of the Mandolins at the Croatian American Cultural Center, 60 Onondaga, at Alemany, San Francisco starting with workshops at 11:00 A.M. and performances at 1:00 P.M. April 28 (Sunday): International Dance Festival for New Dancers at City College of San Francisco, Wellness Center, 50 Phelan Avenue, at Ocean, San Francisco from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. followed by the Blossom Festival from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M.
